PLOT SUMMARY
The Mumbai-based Awasthi family consists of Nandkishore, his wife, Maya, and two sons, Yohan and Ishaan. Both sons attend St. Anthony’s High School where Yohan excels in his studies, but Ishaan does the opposite, having failed in his 3rd standard twice already. His parents continue to be disappointed with his performance, and as a result he hides his report cards from them, often misses school, and keeps to himself all the time. Things get worse when he gets into disagreements and fisticuffs with other children, prompting his father to have him admitted in the New Era Boarding School in distant Panchgani. Even this re-location does not improve Ishaan performance, and the Principal decides to rusticate him. Then a temporary teacher, Ram Shankar Nikumbh is recruited. Ram meets with Ishaan and believes he has a solution that will improve the child’s life – little realizing that Ishaan does not have much of a future as neither his teachers, his friends, and even his parents believe that there is any hope for him.
DISABILITY FACED BY THE PROTAGONIST
Ishaan was suffering from DYSLEXIA – a learning disability in which the child is not able to read the letters and recognize them. Also cannot calculate the speed and velocity with which the object is approaching the child. No one was able to recognize that he is a slow learner.
RELATIONSHIP SHARED BY PROTAGONIST WITH FAMILY MEMBERS
Ishaan shared a loving relationship with his parents but like other parents they were also bi career oriented & was not able to realize the difficulty faced by the child . He had a great bonding with his elder brother & mother. But his father was little bit strict towards him.
ROLE OF PARENTS, TEACHERS AND PEER GROUP TO DEAL A SPECIAL CHILD
-
The parents and teachers should have patience, calm, monitor medications, remove all distractions.
-
The teacher & parents must discuss the annual development report of the child.
-
They should be make child capable to get open up with everyone.
-
The peer group should be understanding, cooperative & broadminded.
-
A positive attitude is the most important quality for anyone who works with children with special need.
-
As a parent your child should feel comfortable and safe.
ROLE OF SOCIETY COMMUNITY AND EDUCATIONAL INSTITUTIONS FOR THE SAME
-
There shouldn’t be any apathetic attitude towards them as it can cause a big hurdle in inclusion .
-
Under Sarva siksha abhiyan , the institution cannot deny the admission of a child on the grounds of special requirements .
-
The institution should provide the facility they require and appoint special teachers for them so that they don’t feel dejected.
-
Institutions should provide them equality .
-
The role of society also as a whole to deal with these children nicely .
INCLUSIVE EDUCATION V/S SPECIAL EDUCATION
According to me Inclusive education is about how we develop and design our schools, classrooms, programs and activities so that all students learn and participate together whereas Special education is specially designed instruction, support, and services provided to students with an identified disability requiring an individually designed instructional program to meet their unique learning needs. All the children must be kept under the same institutions and both types of children should be taught to cooperate with each other. It will not only boost the confidence & ability of a special child but also make normal children broad minded.
If the teachers and parents have to be equipped well to deal with special child then it’s the role of society also as a whole to deal with it nicely .
